BIOGRAPHY
OF DAVID J. CHAPMAN
David
Chapman was born in Winnipeg, Canada. After graduation
from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Economics, David attended the University of
North Dakota School of Law. Upon graduation from law school
with his Juris Doctor with Distinction, David was
admitted to practice law in the states of Colorado
(inactive), Minnesota and North Dakota.
David
has been practicing in the area of US immigration law since
September of 1997. David also formerly served as
in-house General Counsel
for Global Electric Motorcars, A DaimlerChrysler
Company. During service at GEM, David continued his
passion for immigration law by starting his own firm
concentrating its work in the area of immigration law.
David concentrates his practice in the areas of business
and family based immigration, and has also represented
many immigrants in removal proceedings.
David
has also served as Adjunct Professor in the Paralegal
program at Minnesota State University-Moorhead.
David now practices immigration law full time and has
clients all over the United States and around the World.
David
is the author of articles on immigration law, has taught
as a faculty member at Continuing Legal Education seminars
for lawyers as well as paralegals, and has appeared as
a guest on radio in the United States and Canada to discuss
U.S. immigration law.
David
has represented clients before the Immigration Court and
the Board of Immigration Appeals. Additionally,
David is admitted to practice in the following federal
courts: United States District Court for the District of
North Dakota, United States District Court for the
District of Minnesota, United States Court of Appeals for
the Eighth Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the
Ninth Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the
Third Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the
Eleventh Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the
First Circuit, United States Supreme Court.
David
also participates in the BIA pro bono project and
assists members of the bar in addressing questions of
immigration concern. David is a member of the American
Immigration Lawyers Association, the American Inns of
Court, the North Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, the
Christian Legal Society, the National Association of
Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Association of Trial
Lawyers of America.
David and his wife Julie live in the Fargo area with their
son Alex and the family's
Golden Retriever, Duffy. David enjoys reading,
exercise and fine cigars. David is also a student of
the Japanese martial art Aikido at
North Wind
